Less than主要用來表示時間程度上的少于，而fewer than主要用于表示除時間之外的可數(shù)名詞復數(shù)的使用。傳統(tǒng)語法將這兩種用法規(guī)定為fewer than用于可數(shù)名詞，而less than用于不可數(shù)名詞，但是實際生活中l(wèi)ess than也用于可數(shù)名詞。
